Week 1 answered some of the questions we had going into the 2021 season but it also created some new ones.
Here are a few things we are looking for in Week 2 of the NWGA high school football schedule.
Coahulla Creek Colts:
Great win for the Colts last week over cross county rival NW Whitfield in 3 OTS. Arguably the biggest win in program history and 1st over a ranked opponent. Are Colts up? Bruins down? Combination of the two? We will find out a little more this Friday when the Colts host another Whitfield Co foe in SE Whitfield. If Coahulla Creek can win it will be the 1st time in the 9 year history of the program they have pulled off back to back wins.
Coosa Eagles at Trion Bulldogs
Both teams had a bye week 1 so this is our first glance at the 2021 version of these two teams. A lot of expectations headed into the ’21 campaign with this Trion team. They return a lot of Seniors with game experience and look to challenge for the 6A Crown. Coosa is a mystery to a lot of people that follow high school football in this area. We know they have a big OL/DL and some good skill players returning. We are curious to get a look at them Friday night.
Region 7AAAAA Big 3:
The Regions Big 3 (Calhoun, Cartersville, Blessed Trinity) , all ranked in the Top 10 in AAAAA, enter this week as underdogs in their matchups. Calhoun hosts McCallie, Cartersville is at West Forsyth and Blessed Trinity hosts Marist. Interesting to see if one or more of these Big 3 can pull off the upset.
Rivalry Week:
Cass at Adairsville and Bremen at Bowdon: Throw the record books out when these guys meet. Cass and Adairsville both got off to good starts week 1 behind Sophomore QBS. Bowdon had a big win over their 1st of 3 5AA opponents this month and Bremen will be a tough test. The Blue Devils gained a lot of yards last week on offense and will be looking to convert those yards into points Friday.
Couple other interesting story lines:
Dade Co Wolverines: Travel to North Sand Mtn. The Wolverines opened the season with a 21-12 win over Gordon Lee and dominated both sides of the ball. Curious what they can do with the Bison.
LaFayette Ramblers: The Andy Scott era begins for the Ramblers on the road at Model. The Blue Devils have a stingy defense, forcing 5 turnovers last week.
