Yes..we know its just scrimmage but here are some of the teams and individuals that caught our eye this first week of preseason scrimmages.
Sonoraville Phoenix:
The Phoenix beat AAAAA Villa Rica 14-12. The Wildcats came in loaded with athletes, including a junior RB that holds an early UK offer. We heard the Sonoraville defense played an outstanding game and Soph QB Jaxson Pate managed the game well.
Ringgold Tigers:
Ringgold beat Single A Gordon Lee 48-0. A lot of expectations this year surrounding the Tigers this year and if this first scrimmage is any indication the expectations are warranted.
Calhoun and Cartersville On a Collision Course ?
Calhoun had a good scrimmage with the varsity up 35-7 on NW Whitfield at the half. The Bruins were the #2 seed in 7AAAA last season and were expected to compete once again for a home field playoff game this season.
If there was any doubt about Cartersville having a rebuilding season in ’21 they put that to rest last night. They beat a solid Jonesboro team 32-0.
Model Blue Devils Defense:
The Blue Devils shutout a talented Woodland team on the road 7-0. A lot of new faces starting for Model this season on the defensive side of the ball but it appears Coach Hunnicutt has them ready to play.
Bowdon Red Devils:
Bowdon and Central ended up tied 14-14 with the varsity portion ending 7-7. Impressive score for Class A Bowdon verse a future AAAA playoff team.
Rome Wolves Defense:
It took the Rome offense a half before they got to steam rolling but the defense showed up for 4 quarters. From all accounts the Wolves held Kell to close to 0 yards in the 1st half. 2023 DE Stephiylan Green , who was offered by UGA earlier this off season, had a heck of a game.
Rockmart Primed For Region Title #5:
The Yellow Jackets were impressive in their 41-6 win over a Bremen Blue Devil team that will probably be a Top 10 AA team all season.
