Scrimmage Week 1 (Class A)

Week 1 of the preseason scrimmage schedule is here: Good opportunity for these to go out and shake the cobwebs off and hit someone with a different jersey for a change. Here is a look at some of the things we will be looking for this first week around NWGA.

Class A

Baylor Red Raiders at Christian Heritage Lions :

The Lions have tough test to start the preseason, hosting the #8 (AAA) Baylor Red Raiders from Chattanooga. A lot of expectations this season for the Lions, coming off their 1st Region Championship in 2020. They will be without standout WR Evan Lester (Georgia Southern) and RB/LB Gage Leonard (Calhoun) but Christian Heritage still has a lot of weapons returning on offense. OPOY in 7A, Christian Thomas, returns at QB. Sharing the backfield with Thomas is one of the top RB Prospects in NwGA, Solomon Locke. The Lions performed well this Summer in 7 on 7’s at UGA and Georgia Tech. It will be interesting to see how they look in 11 on 11 as they prepare to host #5 Friendship Christian in Week 1.

Ringgold Tigers at Gordon Lee Trojans:

Very interesting game for fans of AAA and A around the Area. Ringgold is a team that a lot of people are talking about as a contender in 6AAA. They return several playmakers from last season on both sides of the ball. Gordon Lee is in the opposite boat . They graduated one of the most successful Senior classes in Trojan history and look to retool in 2021. I have a feeling Coach Groce and company will have these guys ready to go as they look to continue a winning tradition in Chickamauga.

Central Lions at Bowdon Red Devils:

Talent all over the field in this one. Bowdon is the Preseason favorite to repeat as 6A Region Champ. Central has a good season last year in 7AAAA and enter 2021 looking to compete for a home playoff game, if not the Region Title. Keep your eyes peeled for 2 of the Top overall Juniors in our Area. Centrals #3 Kameron Edge is one of the top WR’s in West/NorthWest GA and picked up a Georgia Tech offer earlier this Summer. Bowdon Junior QB #11 Robert McNeal is the reigning 6A POY and looks to have another big season with the Devils.
