Playoffs Week 7

Week 7 saw some upsets all around NWGA. We are looking forward to what week 8 has in store. Here is the playoff projections by NWGA Regions as we stand now.

5-AAAAAA

1 Carrollton 3-0

2 Douglas Co 2-1

3T Rome 2-1

3T Alexander 2-1

The big news in 5AAAAAA this week was Paulding Co upsetting Douglas Co 22-20. Paulding is right on the cusp on the Top 4 at 1-1 and will get their chance to knock off Carrollton this Friday.

Barring any upsets Carrollton looks to have a firm grip on the top spot. Douglas Co gets the nod at 2 having beat Alexander head to head. Rome still has Alexander and Douglas remaining on their schedule.

The Top 4 teams play the bottom 4. Good chance for the up and comers to get back in the race.

7-AAAAA

1T Cartersville 1-0

1T Calhoun 1-0

3T Woodland 0-0

3T Blessed Trinity 0-0

Business as usual Week 7 with Cartersville and Calhoun both winning big.

Things heat up this week when #7 Calhoun host #2 Blessed Trinity. The winner of this one will have their sights set on the Hurricanes for the Region title.

Cass visits Woodland and the winner here, realistically speaking, will have the inside track to the #4 playoff spot with only Hiram standing in their way.

6-AAAAA

1 Chapel Hill 2-0

2 Lithia Spr 1-0

3T New Manchester 1-1

3T Villa Rica 1-1

5 Grady 1-1

The lone team we follow in 6-AAAAA, Villa Rica, is sitting in good shape for a post season birth. They visit a struggling North Springs team this Friday and already have a tie breaking win over Grady. The Wildcats have Lithia Springs and New Manchester the following 2 weeks so they can better their position.

7AAAA

1T Cedartown 1-0

1T Central Carroll 1-0

1T Ridgeland 1-0

4T NW Whitfield 0-1

4T Heritage 0-1

4T Pickens 0-1

Big story from Week 7 was Ridgeland upsetting Heritage behind a big game from Jeremiah Turner and Pickens 14-0 lead on Cedartown in the 1st quarter.

This week all 3 1-0 teams square off against the 3 0-1 teams with the headline game being Cedartown at NW Whitfield. Important week for the 0-1 teams, must win this week to have a legitimate shot at hosting a playoff game.

6AAA

1 Rockmart 3-0

2 Ringgold 3-1

3 Adairsville 2-1

4T North Murray 2-1

4T LaFayette 2-1

Big story in 6AAA for the week was LFO knocking off Sonoraville. The Phoenix were a lot of peoples preseason pick to challenge North Murray and Rockmart for the Region Title but are now sitting at 0-3 and have an uphill climb just to make the post season.

Still lots to sort out in 6AAA. Adairsville gets the nod at 3 with the win over LaFayette but North Murray still as games against LaFayette/Adairsville remaining.

LaFayette can shake things up even more this week if they can upset the surprise team of 2020 the Ringgold Tigers this Friday. Coahulla Creek plays 2 games this week due to Covid makeups and could jump right back in the mix with a couple of wins.

7AAA

The lone team we follow in 7AAA, the Gilmer Bobcats, are sitting in the #4 spot at 1-1 after a very impressive showing this week. The Bobcats scored 62 1st half points in a 62-7 win over Lumpkin Co.

Tough task this week as they travel to Dawson Co but the Bobcats gave Region leading Cherokee Bluffs all they could handle 2 weeks ago.

5AA and 7AA Below Ad

5AA

It starts this week with 5 of the Top 19 teams in all of AA battling it out for the 4 playoff spots.

#3 Callaway at #6 Haralson County

#13 Temple at Heard County

Not a must win game for anyone by any stretch but the winners of these 2 games in most likely hood will qualify for the playoffs.

7AA

1 Fannin 2-0

2 Model 1-0

3 Pepperell 1-1

4 Chattooga 0-0

Fannin Co was very impressive in what many think was the 7AA title game this past Friday. Model and Chattooga will have a say in this as Model looked impressive Friday in a 34-6 win over Coosa and we have yet to see what the Chattooga Indians bring to the table.

This week Chattooga opens the Region schedule hosting Coosa. Dade Co is on the road at Model and Pepperell is at Gordon Central. Fannin is playing a non region game at Copper Basin, Tn before hosting what could be a battle of Region unbeatens next Friday in Blue Ridge.

Class A Public/Private Below Ad

6A Public

2-0 Bowdon

1-0 Mt Zion

0-0 Best

0-1 Trion, Armuchee, Gordon Lee

Bowdon showed why they were the preseason favorite last week with a hard fought 23-21 win over Gordon Lee.

Mt. Zion is 6-0 and has a chance to prove the doubters wrong this week when they travel to Gordon Lee. A win here by the Eagles sets up a potential Region Title game in 2 weeks when the Eagles host Bowdon on Nov 6.

BEST has yet to get underway but they will open this week at Armuchee.

7A Private

Region play gets underway this week with:

Mount Paran at Darlington;

Christian Heritage at Walker

Barring some major upsets (combined record of Mt. Paran and Walker is 1-10) both Darlington and Christian Heritage should be 1-0 when they square off in Dalton with the winner challenging North Cobb Christian for the Region Title
