Dalton at North Murray

This will be only the 2nd ever matchup between these two next door neighbors, a series NWGA fans hope continues for a long time. Dalton won round 1 49-27 last year in Dalton. The Mountaineers will get a chance to even the series at home opening night.

Dalton Catamounts

The Catamounts went 6-6 last season in Head Coach Kit Carpenters 2nd year at the helm. They snapped a two year playoff drought and advanced to the 2nd round for the 1st time since 2016. The Catamounts have a lot of experience coming back on both sides of the ball but they do have big shoes to fill replacing Region POY RB Tyson Greenwade.

4 Players to Watch

#3 Jeffson Locke ATH: The 6’4 235 can play anywhere on the field. Down DL, LB, TE/WR wherever you need him. Army Commit.

#8 Bannon Phelan TE: 2024 6’4 220 is under rated TE prospect. Participated in the prestigious Rising Senior Game last winter.

#15 Ethan Long QB: The 2025 QB can sling it. Led the Catamounts to 7-0 record earlier this Summer at the UTC 7v7.

#5 Kendrix London WR/DB: Breakout season coming for the 5’11 speedster. Had 74 yards receiving in the 1st half of the Spring Game.

North Murray Mountaineers

The Mountaineers finished ’22 6-5 and made the playoffs for the 7th straight year under Head Coach and former NwGaFootball COY Preston Poag. North Murray will have the task of replacing QB Seth Griffin, last years POY in NWGA.

4 Players to Watch

#15 Judson Petty Ath: Top returning WR in NWGA in yards per game. Tough kid that never comes off the field. He can beat you deep or across the middle.

#3 Skyler Williams QB: All eyes will be on this 6’3 rising Junior as he steps in at QB. Showed he is more than capable in the Spring game.

#44 Aiden Ellis LB: The 2025 6’2 225 LB was slowed a little in ’22 but healthy he will be one of the breakout players in Region 7AA. Has all the tools to be an outstanding LB.

#58 Austin Newton C: The Senior OL is one of the hardest working guys on the team. Likes to get after it in the trenches.

Calpreps prediction: North Murray by 5

NwGaFootball Take: On paper you have a 5A v a 2A, a new QB vs an experienced QB. The Mountaineers do get the advantage of being at home but I like Dalton by 2 scores. Dalton 28 North Murray 14.
