News and Notes from around Area 3

WEEK 8 October 23, 2020

# Cass travels to Woodland in what many think is a playoff game in AAAAAA. With Blessed Trinity, Cartersville, and Calhoun in the Region the #4 spot seems to be the only spot up for grabs. Woodland has been off 2 weeks due to COVID issues and Cass gave up 59 1st half points last week. Curious to see how both teams respond Friday.

# # Sonoraville at Murray Co: The Phoenix look to rebound after being upset last week at LFO. Sonoraville’s playoff hopes are hanging by a string and Murray Co would like nothing more than being the spoiler.

# Pepperell at Gordon Central has tentatively been moved to Monday and the Fannin Co at Copper Basin game has been canceled due to covid.

# #2 Blessed Trinity visits #7 Calhoun in a very important game for Region positioning. The winner of this game has their eyes set on Cartersville for the Region Title.

# # 6 Cartersville travels to Hiram as 5+ TDs favorites.

WEEK 3 September 18, 2020

Chattooga (1-1) at Sonoraville (1-0): The Phoenix have had a week off after surviving a last second game winning FG by Model in Week 1. On paper this game seems like one that could set the scoreboard on fire. Sonoraville is lead by All Region QB Brady Lackey who is poised to have a big 2020 season and the Phoenix will need him to step up big this week. Chattooga brings the most balanced offense we have seen from the Indians in some time. Lead by Sr. QB Cash Allen who has thrown for over 200 ypg , most to outstanding freshman WR Nic Hester, and 2x 1000 yd rusher LaShaun Lester who is averaging over 100 ypg. Get your prepacked meal early and try not to use the restroom or you could miss a big play in this one.

SE Whitfield (0-2) at Gordon Central (0-2): The Warriors have played well the 1st 2 weeks against to much bigger opponents with a combined 4-0 record. Gordon Central will get their chance on offense this week against a Raider team that has giving up a lot of yards on the ground this season. Keep an eye out for RB Jordan Boone, the kid is liable to have a huge night Friday.

Alexander (2-0) at #7 AAAA Cartersville (2-0): Tought test for the Hurricanes. AAAAAA Alexander comes in averaging 47.5 ppg on offense and only allowing 6.5 ppg on defense. Cartersville has looked sharp the 1st two weeks behind Sr QB Stratton Tripp. Look for Sr WR Devonte Ross to have another big game as the Hurricanes pull away late in a close one.

On the Road:

#11 AAAAA Calhoun (1-1) at #12 AAAA Cedartown: The only matchup of Top 15 teams in our Area as these two programs with tons of history between them meet in Cedartown. Calhoun is coming off a very good performance in Chattanooga against the #2 Private school in Tennessee. The Yellow Jackets are lead by Jr QB Christian Lewis who found Jr WR Cole Speer last week 7 times for 221 yards. Cedartown features 2 SEC commits on defense in Cedric Washington (UGA) and Jayden Johnson (South Carolina).

Cass (2-0) at Sequoyah (2-0): The Colonels will have to earn that 3-0 start against a very good Sequoyah team from AAAAAA.
