New,notes, and rumors I’ve collected from the fans/coaches/players/media for Area 1.

Week 8 Oct 23, 2020

Things to look for Week 8:

# Dade County (0-1) makes the trip to Model (1-0) for the 2nd week of 7AA play. The Wolverines look to rebound from a tough opener two weeks ago at Pepperell in a monsoon. Senior QB Makinley Everett still leads NWGA in passing with over 1200 yards.

# Gordon Lee (0-1) hosts undefeated Mt. Zion (1-0) in an important 6A Public matchup. If the Trojans want to host a playoff game in November a win over the Eagles is a must.

# Heritage (0-1) hosts Central Carrollton (1-0) and NWGA’s leading rusher Narada Levette in a 7AAAA matchup. The Generals were surprised last week 21-14 at Ridgeland and will need a big defensive effort this week to slow the Lions.

# Christian Heritage opens their Region schedule this week at Walker as big favorites. Can’t look past this one to next weeks big showdown with Darlington.

# LFO fresh off a big upset of Sonoraville heads to face #8 AAA Rockmart. If the Warriors can pull this one off it would be the biggest statistical upset in NWGA in the past 5 years. (43 point underdogs)

# LaFayette is hosting Ringgold in a pivotal 6AAA game. Ringgold sits tied for 2nd with North Murray and LaFayette currently holds the #4 spot.

Week 3 Sept 18, 2020

Great games this week if you live in the Northeast corner of our viewing area.

The big one is in Chickamauga when LaFayette (0-1) travels to Gordon Lee (2-0). The Trojans look to knock off their 2nd 6AAA opponent in a row. Gordon Lee used a big 2nd half last week to beat LFO on the road 29-15. The Ramblers lost a heart breaker late to Model 21-20. If you like RBs this is a game to get out see. Gordon Lee has a stable of RBs lead by SR. Cade Peterson and LaFayette’s JaMario Clements is one of the most highly recruited backs in NWGA for 2020.

Temple Tigers (2-0) at Heritage Generals (2-0): Temple brings a potent rushing attack lead by last years AA leading rusher Phillip Johnson but their bread and butter may be the defense in 2020. The Tiger defense is allowing only 9.5 ppg against 2 very good opponents (Bowdon, Central Carroll). Heritage will put that defense to the test with one of the best passing offenses in the Area. Senior QB Nick Hanson leads an offense that can put the ball in the air. Side note: 2 of the best LBs in NWGA will be in action in this one. Heritage SR. Zach Brown and Temple Sr. Justin Isler (App St. Commit).

Villa Rica (1-0) at #8 Christian Heritage (1-1): On paper a AAAAA vs A should be a mismatch but not this one. The Lions have a balanced offensive attack lead by Jr. QB Christian Thomas. He has a big target in Preseason All State WR Evan Lester and a duo of talented Jr. RBs in Gage Leonard and Solomon Locke.

Ringgold (0-1) at Ridgeland (0-2): Both teams look to get in the win column this week in what should be a very competitive game. Ringgold is coming off a 28-21 loss verse Heritage and Ridgeland has played a gauntlet of a schedule to start 2020.

On the Road:

Dade County (0-1) at Cedar Bluff (1-2): Cedar Bluff was a preseason Top 10 team in Class A in Alabama to start the season but struggled the out of the gate. Dade has had a week off after their opening loss to Gordon Lee. Keep an eye on Dade QB Mackinley Everett who passed for close to 300 yds Week 1.
