6A Preview/Standings (9.27.21)

The 6A Public playoff race heats up this week as 4 of the 6 teams are in Region play action this Friday.

Current Standings: (Ties by Calprep Ratings)

  1. Bowdon (1-0)
  2. Mount Zion (0-0)
  3. Armuchee (0-0)
  4. Gordon Lee (0-0)

———-Playoff Line———-

  1. BEST (0-0)
  2. Trion (0-1)

A little misleading on the playoff standings as we only have one game under our belt. Bowdon went on the road and defeated a very good Trion team 35-13 behind 228 total yards and 4 TDs from Junior QB Robert McNeal.

This Week:

Mount Zion Eagles (0-0) at Armuchee Indians (0-0)

The Indians are off to their best start in over a decade at 4-0. The Eagles will be their biggest challenge to date.

The Eagles are led by Junior RB/SB/DB Malachi Ackles who has 10 TDs on the season and creates a headache for both offense and defense coordinators. The OL/DL is anchored by Charleston Southern commit Garrett Gordon and has proven to be a run stopper this season.

The Indians put together one of their best games of the season last Friday beating visiting Weaver 45-7. Junior QB Chandler Desanto had a breakout game with 200+ total yards and 4 TDs. The defense stepped up big with 5 total takeaways, including 4 interceptions.

Calprep Line: Eagles by 9

Bowdon Red Devils (1-0) at Gordon Lee Trojans (0-0)

Bowdon beat Trion 35-13 last week in what may prove to be the Region title game. Junior QB McNeal had a huge game and Senior RB Gage Stephens made his return to the lineup after missing the first month after getting banged up preseason.

Gordon Lee shutout SE Whitfield 29-0 in what is an impressive showing against a team with a couple of strong running backs. The Trojans were a question mark coming into the season with the loss of a big senior class but after impressive showings the last 2 weeks they look ready to compete for a playoff spot and maybe even another home game in the 1st round.

Calpreps Line: Red Devils by 30
