Round 2 of the rematch from the 2021 Semifinals. Blessed Trinity won Round 1 last season at Calhoun 36-25. The Jackets will head to Roswell Week 1 to try and even the score on the Titans home field.
Calhoun Yellow Jackets
The Yellow Jackets finished ’22 9-4 before losing to Ware County in the Quarterfinals. They bring back one of the best QB/RB combinations in NWGA. Seniors 6’2 QB Trey Townsend and RB Caden Williams, a Liberty commit, return a lot of experience in the backfield. This is the 5th season under Head Coach Clay Stephenson who has led the Yellow Jackets to at least the QF round in 3 of his 4 seasons, including a State Championship appearance in 2021.
4 Players to Watch
#85 Emaree Winston (’25 TE): The 6’2 230 TE is one of the top ranked TE prospects in the 2025 Class.
#53 Kristyane Gregory (’24 DE): The 6’4 265 DE is a Liberty Commit.
#59 Christian Bell (’24 OL/DL): Carrying on the tradition of hard nosed Yellow Jacket lineman. Has several offers including Shorter and University of Cumberlands.
#96 Sager Quinn (’26 DE): The 6’3 250 rising Sophomore is one of the best young players in NWGA. High ceiling for this young man.
Blessed Trinity Titans
2022 was a down year for Blessed Trinity, at least by their standards. They peaked as high as #2 in the rankings after week 3 before eventually going 4-3 down the stretch and losing in the 1st round of the playoffs to finish 7-4. The Titans will be young in ’23 and looking to replace 1000 yard rusher Kieran Davis who is now at ECU. I saw them earlier this Summer at camp and they will be solid, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
4 Players to Watch
#12 Brooks Goodman (’25 QB): The 6’3 200 QB returns after throwing for over 1000yds as a Sophomore.
#70 Paul Harrington (’24 OL/DL): The 6’5 350 has a nasty streak and is a handful to block.
#10 Dylan Torrico (’24 LB): hard hitting LB that recently picked up an offer from Princeton.
David Jacobs (’27 DE/WR): If you like seeing young guys before they get “famous” this is one to watch. The 6’4 rising freshman has all the tools to be a good one.
Calpreps Prediction: Calhoun by 5
NwGaFootball Take: The Yellow Jackets are primed for a memorable season in ’23 with all the experience they have returning. No doubt a tough game to open the season with, especially on the road. I like the Jackets in a nail biter. Calhoun 28 Blessed Trinity 27
