’22 Coach of The Year

5th Annual NwGaFootball COY Award

We had over 9500 fan votes this year for the Coach of the Year. The total voting is 1/3 Fan Vote, 1/3 Panel Vote and 1/3 NwGaFootball staff vote.

Our Panel this year is made up of 13 people as far South as Heard Co, as far North as Dade Co and over to the East to Fannin Co.

This year we had a record 6 Head Coaches receive at least 5% of the overall vote, a record number in our 5 years.

6th Place:

Danny Wilson (Coahulla Creek): 3rd season with the Colts. Led Coahulla Creek to their 1st playoff berth, 1st winning season, most points scored in a season and least points allowed in a season.

5th Place

Jeff Hunnicutt (Model): #1 in the Fan Vote. Led the Blue Devils to their 1st home playoff game in 7 years with a 2nd place finish in Region 7AA. Signature wins over Trion and Fannin Co.

4th Place

Grant Myers (Pickens) The job he did the last month of the season did not go unnoticed. The Dragons started ’22 going 1-5 but ended with 4 straight wins, 3 as underdogs, to capture a playoff spot in 7AAA.

3rd Place

Rich Fendley (Bowdon): Led the Red Devils to their 3rd straight Region Title and #1 Ranking in Class A D2 for most of the Season. Bowdon will be playing in their 1st QF game in 9 years this Friday when they travel to Early Co.

2nd Place

Jon Cudd (Adairsville): Rookie Head Coach with the Tigers. Led Adairsville to their 1st Region Title in 21 years and 1st playoff win since 2015.


2022 NwGaFootball Coach of the Year

Jamie Abrams (Cedartown) Coach Abrams won both the Panel and NwGa Vote. In his 3rd Season with the Bulldogs he led them to their 3rd Region Title in a row for the 1st time in 21 years. They finished the regular season undefeated for the 1st time since the 2001 State Final team. Their 10 wins during the regular season included 8 playoff teams, 2 Region Champs, and 3 teams currently playing in the State Quarter Finals. Cedartown has outscored their opponents 505-87 through 12 games and will be making their 3 consecutive trip to the 3rd Rd this Friday when they travel to Bainbridge.
