#12 (5A) Cass at #4 (6A) Rome

Marquee matchup under the lights at Barron Stadium as part of the Corky Kell Classic. Both teams are loaded with talent and the who’s who of high school football media will be roaming the sidelines. Cass has put themselves in the “Teams to beat” category in NWGa high school football and are looking to take the next step by knocking off one of the Premier teams in the Area. The action will be as hot as the temperature on opening night.

Cass Colonels

I refer to the Colonels as the Band of Brothers. The Ellis’s, the McWhorters, and the Hendersons all are big time football players. The Colonels feature UGA commit Sacovie White at WR/DB and return ’26 QB Brodie McWhorter at QB. Coach Gates and staff have done an outstanding job putting the Colonels on the map and getting them to their 1st ever back to back playoff seasons and 1st ever playoff wins. Expectations are high in White, Ga this Fall.

4 Players to Watch

#1 Sacovie White (’24 WR/DB): The UGA commit has the hands the feet and can jump out of the building.

#7 Devin Henderson (’24 Ath): Liberty Commit. Can play anywhere on the field, including QB.

#10 Kevin Henderson (’24 LB): Under rated LB that can bring it.

#6 Brodie McWhorter (’26 QB): Already garnering the attention of D1 schools with several offers. Led the Colonels to their 1st ever playoff win as a freshman last season.

Rome Wolves

The Wolves made it to the semifinals last season and are looking for more in 2023. This will be the 8th season under Head Coach John Reid who has led the Wolves to 7 consecutive playoff appearances including 5 Region Titles and 2 State Championships.

4 Players to Watch

#2 Reece Fountain (’24 QB): Starts his 4th season as the Wolves starting signal caller.

#98 Justin Terrell (’24 DT): The 6’2 290 DT is a tough man to block. He will be announcing his commitment July 12th. Down to Clemson, UVA, NC State, NC and Indiana.

#22 Joe Wilkinson (’24 DB): The App State Commit packs a punch.

#3 DK Daniel (’24 WR): Can fly. Will be fun to see him and White matchup 1v1 a few times on opening night.

CalPreps Prediction: Rome by 28

NwGaFootball Take: If either team wins this game by 28 points their fanbase should go ahead and make hotel reservations in Atlanta the 2nd week of December. The Wolves have been on the big stage before and having the homefield advantage gives them the edge. That being said, we do a Pick Em Show on our podcast and each week we hit the button for upset of the week. My hand will be hoovering over the button for this game !? Rome 28 Cass 14
